Behala Accident #KolkataToday

On Friday, 6.30am in the morning, Behala witnesses severe unrest when a speeding goods lorry carrying sand hits a 7 year old on his way to school.

Police identified the boy as Swarnil Sarkar, resident of Haridevpur, a student of class 2 at Barisha High School. The boy was spotted dead, while the father's condition remains critical.

Following the escape of the accused truck driver, the mob got angered going on a fire rampage. Police vans were lit and government buses were vandalized and Diamond Harbour Road was blocked for three hours.

Locals fulminated with Sarkar's body on the road for two hours. Allegedly, there was disagreement between them and the police, post which stones were pelted on the road adjacent Behala Chowrasta. As a result, police officials as well as locals were injured.

A large police force was called in to clear the mob. Fire brigade came into action to put out the fire. According to local sources, police pitched in tear gas shells reportedly hitting a woman on the face.
